How to motivate geeks and manage developers

Once again has Andrei Kouvchinnikov over at dominounlimited found a very interesting article, this time from dominopower. It’s regarding something that many managers are struggeling with everyday, how to attract and motivate the core, supernatural borned geeks that does all that cool stuff in the R&D departements. For example:

Geeks are curious. Let them feed [...]

Testing your code often will not shape your body.

Update: Changed spelling on topic
Ferdy Cristant quotes Steve McConnell (the Code Complete author) in a blog about test driven development… Well… Sort of…. Atleast it’s a Programming quote of the day.
Anyway, the idea is that testing often improves software quality just as using the bathroom scale often improves weight control - NADA.
I tried this [...]

The View developer conference

I’ve never attended a The View conference. Neither do I know anyone that has. To be frank, I didn’t know they existed until I read Bill Buchan’s post about commuting. I guess I can’t get my company to send me both to Lotus Developer2006 - Vienna in december and to Lotusphere2007 - Orlando in January [...]

IBM, Eclipse, DOJO, Ajax and Hannover

Me == Sherlock.
It might be that I still believe in the domino and IBM products that I actually think that the next domino designer release, named Hannover, will contain a built in Ajax toolkit. Maybe like MS Atlas. If this is the case I assume we will see some changes in market share. For a [...]

Teamstudio out counted

During the years I’ve worked with various of teamstudio’s softwares. It started with CIAO (sp?) and I have tried the delta and the configurator. Unfortunately mostly in projects which has been like 20 days intensive use of delta and then nothing for a year or two. Today I’m mostly using the configurator and the only [...]

Next Lotus Notes has codename HANNOVER

Hannover is not only a town in Germany, it’s also the code name for the new Lotus Notes release. IBM has a product page available. IBM says it’s scheduled for 2007. I bet it wont be Q1.

Exporting views as excel

I was browsing the eknori.de blog about domino when I found some interesting code about an
Excel Report Class:

Set view = ws.CurrentView.View
Set report = New ExcelReport(excelfilepath, False)
Call report.exportNotesView(view, Sheet, OffsetX, OffsetY, isWithHeader, includeIcons, includeColors, includeHidden)
Call report.setVisibility(True)

It was an example on how to use the Excel Report Class by Christian Gorni.
I guess all developers comes across [...]

Google bought sketchUp

Although this has nothing to do with IBM and Domino it’s a very interesting joint that took place when Google bought SketchUp. I won’t present Google but for anyone that’s interested that SketchUp is abolutely one of the most brilliant softwares I’ve come across. It’s a 3D sketching software that makes it a brief getting [...]
