Just extremely funny in some sort of way.

The pics on this page is definitely office-save, but there are som ads at the end that shows a bit more skin than what’s considered politically correct:
The page is named “Man of the year 2006″ and it’s all about humor of course:

The whole page is here.

The number one ‘man’ is shown here:

Check out this cool app built on XUL

Firefox is just so misunderstood, take a look on the cool Pencil Project for example. I tried to find a decent list of nice XUL applications but didn’t succeed very much. David Boswell tried a year ago, why not checking out his list?

Comments on another “ten good OS X apps”

Res IpsaBenson Varghese posts one of the popular lists: “Ten Free Mac OS X Programs that Make the PC to Mac Switch a Breeze”. His list is not the same as my list was the other day. And he covers some other areas. I’m a fairy recent switcher (a year or so by now) and have some comments on his software suggestions:

1. Quicksilver - I tried this but things that the Spotlight that’s bundled with Leopards reaches up to very much was Quicksilver did for the OS X pre-Leopard.
2. Anxiety - Haven’t tried but sounds like a great idea.
3. Caffeine - I don’t really see the need for this. Is it that heard to change the screensaver and power settings?
4. Growl is cool!!!
5. Adium is on my list too! :-D
6. Smultron - Texteditors can’t be discussed, it’s about feelings and taste.
7. Skim - This one I will certainly check out
8. VLC is for all platforms, isn’t it? (It’s on my list too :-D)
9. iStat menu really is cool. (Guess whos list it is on? )
10. Rachota - I haven’t checked this one out but I guess it’s another of those applications that there are ten per dussins of that aims for all prosticonsultants/lawyers bad consious for the time reporting every week/month…

Browser stats for this site last year

Hmm… I usually claims that I disrespect bloggers that blogs about blogging. I have atleast said that in earlier entries here and here and maybe I should stop either saying it or maybe I should just stop doing that and start learning my beliefs… :-)

Anyway, sometimes I check out the stats for my site and this morning I amused myself by checking the browser/OS of my visitors, below is the statistics. These values can of course not be used as any indication other than what browser/OS visitors to my site has, it must not necessarily reflect the world wide usage of browsers and operating systems. See bottom of this posts for links to more accurate statistics and don’t forget Benjamin Disraeli:

There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics

W3Schools says this about this years statistics:

Midnight sun in northern Europe - a view from my hotel

I’m sorry for the reflections. The hotel manager probably judged me for being suicidal because I was not allowed to open the windows. :)

Read more about the Midnight Sun on wikipedia and check out these much more beautiful pictures.

It’s 12:30am.

My setup doing javascript stuff

(Updated some links)

My latest project has been heavily javascript based and it must work on IE6. (It works on FF and Safari aswell ofcourse, but that just my pride not the clients demands). The tools I’m using for javascript coding are:

Software:

  • Textmate - the texteditor. Has javascript syntax coding but that’s it. Coda or Komodo are actually more competent.
  • CSS-Edit - This is the best thing that has ever happened the poorly written CSS-standard.
  • VMWare fusion - for running a windows XP box on my powerbook. The windows machine runs a notesserver and IE6.
  • Safari - For keeping some reference materials on-screen
  • Firefox - This is where I test and debug my code

Add-ons:

  • Safari - turn on developermode, it’s actually very competent
  • Firefox - firebug ofcourse
  • IE6 - Debugbar and companionjs. Not even close to what firebug does but I think it’s the best we can get.

References:

  • JSLint - for validating javascript. To be honest this only helps me when the code is almost good. It’s of no use when something is badly broken.
  • extjs.com - This is the javascript framework I’m using for this particular project
  • CSS2 reference

Some companies just has the right attitude

Yesterday I was into an exciting discussion about why some companies can have a fan-club and others don’t. We talked about Google, Apple, Microsoft and IBM where the first two pretty much gets away with a lot of strange stuff but no matter what the latter two companies does they simply don’t appeal the tone-setting audience on the net.

For example, in Sweden these days there is a huge infected debate going on that our FRA (defense something, has to do with weapons, borders and spying, Google Translated WikiPage) want to tap not just the air, as in radio waves, but also the wires, as in internet, for traffic crossing the borders. This is a goverment controlled agency and a loads and loads of bloggers, journalists, people in common are really upset of this new law. “It is threatening the personal integrity” is the most used argument.

People tend to be angry on both the FRA and the goverment for this new law. The very same people has no problem att all putting their whole life in the hands of a privately held company. Life as in calendar, email, documents, contacts etc. This is with Google. If IBM would have come up with the idea of keeping track of everything you do I’m rather sure they wouldn’t succeed in the same way as Google has. Yahoo tried once but they never really lifted, and when remembering the China-thing (they gave up a journalist who now sits in prison) I’m very happy for that.

I found a small company the other day, they have just released one single software but what a software, it’s called Flow and is actually just an FTP-client. But a really, really sexy FTP-client. On their web-site they have these lines (along others):

what we believe in.

At the heart of Extendmac, we have three beliefs:

  1. Simplicity : Life is too complicated. We think that people want tools to make it simpler.
  2. Passion : “Because the only way to do great work is to love what you do.”
  3. Morality : We aim to be good, upholding citizens of the world. We design our software to let others act similarly.

I think that’s just what it’s all about, isn’t it?
