insert key for Midnight Commander on os x == ctr-T

I started with ZX-81 but learned MS-DOS when it came a few(!) years later. As part of the fidonet and BBS scene I handled alot with files, I mean a lot… Back then we used Norton Commander, a piece of software that was soo smart, soo feature rich and soo well written. As we all know, DOS got a graphic UI on top of it and today the fork is called Vista.

Anyway, long post to just say that ctrl-T is the equivalent to the insert key on a Mac keyboard, atleast in Midnight Commander.

Setting up webdav in notes

Every second year or so I need to setup a working webdav to a server. The only reason I’m using webdav is to add hundreds or thousands of -resource files to a database. This week I needed Ext 2.1 and all the famfamfam silk icons (with GIF, guess what browser I’m aiming?)
Yes, one option could be to use the HTML-directory, but then DOLS will break…. something I realised brutally this week….

Anyway, my guide for setting up webdav is as so many other times Jake Howlett’s codestore. His step-by-step guide works excellent, but there are some things I manage to miss every time, and my memory has never been very good on details occuring years ago so I’m doing this post to write down all ’shitty’ things that can go wrong:

  • When server says “not supporting this command”, check that the Design locking is enabled on the database.
  • When Windows XP refuses to let you change username but suggests a crappy “GUEST” account then simply map your webdav from the command line. Net use * http://myserver/db.nsf$files /User:joachim
  • You must login with the FIRST entry in the username list. (This is not 100% confirmed)
  • Don’t forget to set minimun design rights for Internet Users to Designer

Ohh, no - they killed Norton

Arrived to the office today, just to find out that the cleaning service trashed my Norton. Lousy day:

4.13% of the web is standard compliant!

4.13% of all pages are standard compliant. That’s pages available on the internet. Considering how many intranet projects I’ve been involved with that only supports IE6 I get scared…..

Got bad seats on your last flight?

Ten years ago I was located to an office in London, UK. One of the directors there started yelling on his assistant/secretary that she had the extremely unintelligent taste to rebook his booking to an F seat. She said that she controlled with the flight company that the F seat was a window seat and the confirmed. His anger came out that if the plane breaks down and the get another model he couldn’t be sure that F was at the window anymore, but an A seat is always at the window.

Some guys just don’t have enough thrillment in their life… For the rest of us we can check out which airplane has the best seats, or actually what seats to avoid on different airplanes on www.seatguru.com.
