Setting up webdav in notes
Every second year or so I need to setup a working webdav to a server. The only reason I’m using webdav is to add hundreds or thousands of web-resource files to a database. This week I needed Ext 2.1 and all the famfamfam silk icons (with GIF, guess what browser I’m aiming?)
Yes, one option could be to use the HTML-directory, but then DOLS will break…. something I realised brutally this week….
Anyway, my guide for setting up webdav is as so many other times Jake Howlett’s codestore. His step-by-step guide works excellent, but there are some things I manage to miss every time, and my memory has never been very good on details occuring years ago so I’m doing this post to write down all ’shitty’ things that can go wrong:
- When server says “not supporting this command”, check that the Design locking is enabled on the database.
- When Windows XP refuses to let you change username but suggests a crappy “GUEST” account then simply map your webdav from the command line. Net use * http://myserver/db.nsf$files /User:joachim
- You must login with the FIRST entry in the username list. (This is not 100% confirmed)
- Don’t forget to set minimun design rights for Internet Users to Designer
