Word of mouth

I have several times told my clients, face-to-face or during seminars, that word-of-mouth marketing is here to stay and that’s it’s much more developed than average-Joe understands (understood). After drumming this mantra for a couple of years people tends to get the picture and everything is fine again. Today I read an interesting blog post about situations where word of marketing simply wouldn’t work. He’s spot on and even if there’s nothing new under the sun it really sums it up. For example:

#3 It might not feel cutting edge enough for your crowd. So, it’s not the thing that’s embarrassing, it’s the fact they you just found out about it. Don’t bring up your brand new Tivo with your friends from MIT. They’ll sneer at you.
