Can’t the AJAX portals collaborate on a widget standard?
A couple of weeks ago I asked a question in the Google Homepage Api group if the Google Homepage Framework can be bought or if the source is available somewhere. The reason for this is that when I read the Google Homepage API specs I find the framework to be rather well documented and some thinking has certainly been made by the folks at Google.
I am one of the architects of my companys portal product, named [tag]PARC[/tag]. The product was borned in the nineties but has ofcourse evolved quite a bit since then. It’s using widgets/webparts/display objects and a registry to keep track of everything. It is ofcourse proprietary because there was nothing like our portal on the market when we released. However the future is reaching up and it’s not a bad thing if all or atleast some of the [tag]AJAX[/tag] based [tag]portal framework[/tag] could do some collaboration and find some standard for widget configuration in the same way as the JAVA based portals today gathers around the [tag]JSR168[/tag] standard.
I stumbled upon the iGMonkey initiative today. Though I havent downloaded and tried it out yet it might be exactly what we are looking for. I just created a search on technorati to see what the world is thinking of [tag]iGMonkey[/tag].

Stumble It!
